Maraming maraming salamat sa kapwa kong ATENEO 6TH MAN!!!
Salamat.
ISANG MALAKING LABAN!
tama.
for me, i'd rather die falling from the sky as an eagle, than spend a lifetime in earth as an archer. . .
also, an interesting quote from a blogger:
"i'd rather lose like la tenorio than win like ryan arana"
so true.
one big fight!
(coming from an Atenean freshman, this may not account for anything.)
Salamat po! Truly memorable first year in Ateneo..
There were a lot of heartbreak moments. But the moments of joy far outweigh all those. There were times when I found myself almost crying - tears of joy po! Most of them when we cheer ONE BIG FIGHT.
Next season po uli! (and the seasons after that. hindi tayo titigil!)
Yes it's the end of the season and I've been posting my thank you-s like crazy on various threads so naturally, I won't pass this one up.
Unang una, salamat sa Ateneo 6th man! Manalo o matalo. Ang sarap maging bahagi ng 6th man. Next year and the years after that, I'll still be a part of the 6th man. No other school does it the way we do.
Good luck sa hinaharap.
Kita-kita ulit tayo next year. Al Hussani, sana kasing galing ka na ni Japeth by that time.
Pangapat, sa coaching staff. You did your best and I was impressed by the improvements that the team underwent. All to the credit of the coaching staff.
It's been one hell of a season. A great grand season. We still beat the odds that were set against us. We did better than what the other teams expected of us during the first few games of the season. What more could we ask for? I'd rather lose as an Atenean than win as a La Sallian. And no, hindi to dahil sa school or sa kung ano pang rivalry, dahil ito sa pagsayaw ni Arana nung 2nd round game at sa pagpose ng players nila kanina. And of course, there's personal preference involved. Syempre, atenista ako eh.
Win or lose, it's the school we choose.
for the monster jams...
for the blocked shots...
for the step-back threes...
for the impossible lay-ups...
for the hook shots...
for the mid-range jumpers...
for the player improvements...
for the game tactics...
for the team cohesion...
for the endless cheers...
for the loud drumbeats...
for the halftime performances...
for the 6th men and women...
WHO STILL BELIEVED TILL THE END...
THANK YOU!
I will miss LA Tenorio and Magnum Membrere. Clealy LA Tenorio bought a form of flash and substance whenever he is in the game. As for Magnum... what a class act on and off the court. Maging player man ang anak ko in the future... Magnum and example ng player na gusto kong gayahin niya.
Thank You, Blue Eagles. I often bop myself in the head for just watching you guys play rather than do my job. There have been countless times that I've missed clicking the shutter because of a jaw-dropping LA reverse, or a hard JC flush, or an in-your-face Japeth jam. Watching all of you play is an honor in itself, and a greater honor is sharing the hardcourt with you.
Godspeed on what lies ahead, LA, Mags, and Badjie.
You make us proud... all of you.
OBF!

Thank you, all of you.
This is not the end of the course for us, though.
The future beckons, and we answer:
ANIMO ATENEO!
ONE BIG FIGHT!
as grade schoolers, eman nazareno, jr elmido, larry and others were inspired by watching sandy, big john and ritchie t battle against impossible odds in the seniors.
many current grade schoolers and young aspiring high school players now draw inspiration from watching the never-say-die attitude of LA, Magnum and Badjie. we will be fortunate if in the future, the likes of felix, enriquez, dumrique brothers, gancayco, golla, erazo, ravena, etc emulate the attitude of LA, Magnum and Badjie when it's their turn to play in the seniors.
thank you, guys, and good luck! in all your future endeavors, palaging ONE BIG FIGHT!
Thank you L.A. for staying on. Thank you for a wonderful season. To me, you are the BEST Ateneo player ever. You have inspired us to continue to believe.
Thank you Magnum. Tama sila. Ikaw ang best example of the Ateneo heart. Talent and heart of an Atenean.
Thank you Bajjie. You embody the never-say-die spirit of the Atenean. You have truly earned all your badges.
To all fellow 6th men- lets all get together for a much-deserved despedida for all our graduating players. They have made the past 5 years memorable and inspiring. Lets give them ONE last BIG FIGHT!
LA, King Eagle, I never wanted your last game for Ateneo to turn out this way. I had visions of a buzzer-beater step back three, and earth-shattering chants of "MVP! MVP!", win or lose. Losing you to cramps early in the 4th quarter and watching you get carried off the court, limping, broke the hearts of every person wearing blue. Thank you for all those times when you singlehandedly carried the team, and for fighting until the end. The UAAP will miss you, and we, your fellow Ateneans, salute you.
Magnum, I cried when I saw you wave to the Ateneo gallery one last time on the court, and when you pounded your fist to your chest. PUSO PA RIN. When LA fell, you stepped up. And as with LA, I never imagined your last game to be like this. I will miss your ear-cupping, fist-on-the-chest, arm waving antics. Thank you for pumping us up all the time. Sana pumasok yung last shot mo kanina. Good luck sa iyo. Salamat.
Bajjie, I was never a big fan of yours, and I do admit to expressing my disappointment, uh, passionately whenever you'd commit errors, but I ADMIRE YOUR HEART. Thank you for the countless times you motivated the team and for acting as their "kuya" on court, defending your team mates whenever one of them gets taunted, and for being the first to rush to their side whenever they get injured. Watching you while singing the alma mater song, fist raised, eyes scanning the Ateneo gallery, trying valiantly to hold back your tears, humbled me.
Coach Norman, for me YOU ARE STILL THE BEST GODDAMN COACH IN THE UAAP. (At least you don't sit directly behind opponents' benches just to scout...)
Blue Babble Battalion and cheerdancers, kudos for a job well done this season.
Blue Babble Band, HATAW PA.
To the Ateneo Sixth Man, it was an honor to cheer with you this season. WE SHOWED 'EM WHAT CHEERING'S ALL ABOUT!
Finally, to Mary, our Mother and Model... thank you for a wonderful season.
AT THE END OF THE DAY, MANALO MAN O MATALO, MGA ATENISTA PA RIN TAYO!!!
SILA, HINDI!!!
ONE BIG FIGHT PA RIN!!!
PUSOOOOOOOO!
Thanks, LA for being the only guy to have represented our batch (go 2005! hehe), and for carrying the team for the past two years. It truly is a shame that it ended that way, but you couldn't have gone out more valiantly than that. Pare, good luck sa PBA. ![]()
Thanks, Magnum. You have always been that spark plug whether through your tenacity or in your ability to rile up the Ateneo gallery. I'm sure that with a spirit like yours, things are looking bright.
Thanks, Badjie (ulit). I know that I have been a doubter of yours for the past two years, but I cannot deny your probable influence on the team during practices and on the bench. I'm sure that the many (yes, many) years that you've spent with Ateneo was fruitful.
Salamat sa Blue Eagles at sa coaching staff. After last year's disappointment and despite this year's shaky start, you gave us a reason to hope for something glorious. Although it didn't end as we would've like it to, it was still glorious. Ateneo seems to have a knack to always emerge glorious, no matter what. Magis lang yan mga pre. Sooner or later, we will regain the spotlight of a championship.
Thank you, BBB. Kahit kailan, maaasahan... medyo parang beer.
Even if you had a lot of us scratching our heads with your word spelling during halftimes, iba pa rin kayo... in a good way. ![]()
And thank you, Ateneo. After the heart-breaking loss, I went back to the campus for a while, visited the Gesu, and took a walk around. Nothing can compare to the Ateneo and to my experiences here as a student and as part of the community. AMDG.
Good luck to the Eaglets and to the Lady Eagles!
Good luck to the rest of Team Ateneo!
OBF.
SULONG ATENISTA!!!! KAHIT SAAN MAGPUNTA...IISA ANG PUSO...ANG DUGO NATING BUGHAW AY MAGPAKAILANMANG SUMISIGAW>>>>ANG SARAP MAGING ATENISTAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
LA,MAGS,&BAJJIE : thank you, thank you for all the wonderful memories that you guys gave us. goodluck on your future endeavors.
TO COACH NORMAN : your still the best looking forward for next season.
6th man : di pa tapos ang laban..kita kits sa ladies, juniors and team glory be.
the babble : i know di madali ang trabaho niyo..and i admire the heart that you guys displayed every game..manalo o matalo you guys are tops!
the band : kahit mejo problematic ang year na ito for you guys..it didnt stop you to give it your best in every game...astig pa rin ang drumline niyo!. sana maayos na ang mga problema na yan..para mas malakas pa tayo next year.
THANK YOU LORD and MAMA MARY for showering us with blessings and graces!.
ONE BIG FIGHT!!!!!
It's a constant source of wonder to me how a young person enters the Ateneo and comes out (for the most part and in most cases) a better one. Whether it's in the field of professional, academic, artistic or athletic pursuits, once you're an Atenista, you'll be marked for life and you'll be carrying the honor and, and in a sense, the burden of BEING MORE, DOING MORE!
To LA, Magnum, Badjie, you guys have passed the test, you've ran the course........you've kept the faith! You have our hearts and our gratitude....
To Coaches Norman, Sandy, Gene, Jamike, et al., may you continue to impart your knowledge and guidance to the remaining guys.
To the Blue Eagles who will soldier on in the next Seasons, whatever the outcome you can count me as a believer!
To my dear fellow members of the Ateneo Community, it's an honor to be counted among you.
ONE BIG FIGHT!! (til Kingdom Come !!)
A final thank you to LA, Magnum, and Bajjie.
I wish the season would've ended differently but it does nothing to diminish the season you guys had.
LA, thank you for the countless step-back 3s, the twisting reverse lay-ups, and blinding steals. Thank you for coming back for your final season and leading our S68 charge.
Magnum, remember your freshman year when we played UE in the Father Martin's Cup? You scored 19 points and when asked "what else does Magnum have to show and you replied "abangan na lang ninyo". 5 years later, we thank you for all the memories... and thank you for raising your hands and pounding your heart as you walked off the court... we know you gave your very best and that is all anyone can really ask.
Bajjie, I would like to remember you as the player who sparked our comeback in S67's first game against Lasalle (the last time we beat them). Your late-game heroics allowed us to end Lasalle's streak of winning on opening day and rewarded King Eagle Larry a victory in his final showdown with our archrivals.
To our Big 3, good luck and thank you for serving the Blue and White these past 5 years. We hope to see you in S69 as part of the 6th Man!
+AMDG
LA - Thank you for making the right choice on coming to the Ateneo and staying for one last year to make that one last run. We will never thank you enough for slugging it out for old Blue and White when we very well know that without you we end the race far from 3rd. Surely, you will be a PBA superstar.
Magnum - Thank you for the wonderful six years you have spent with the Ateneo and fuelling the crowd when we needed it most. Yes you are right, it is all about heart. Good luck on your masters degree and may you finish it. My buddy who was your prof told me that you are one heck of a student. Keep that up.
Fellow Ateneans: next season is something to look forward to and we know that we have a bright future in Japeth.
Coach Norman: you have never changed your ways since I covered you professionally in the PBA. I wrote your legacy when you made that spectacular grand slam feat with SMB. Thank you for accomodating me being a relative "greenhorn" in the profession and thank you for enhancements you have made with the Ateneo.
ANIMO ATENEO
Hayop. Tuwing may gagawa ng coast -to-coast reversrse lay up with the defense already set-up at step back three, pare, ikaw ang ipagmamayabang ko, malamang ay sa iyo nila natutunan yon.
Magaling kang manlalaro at mas magaling pang ATENISTA.
LA Tenorio - You are my favorite blue eagle of all time. You are THE one-man press breaker. I will never forget your spectacular lay-ups, your step-back three's (especially the ones against FEU and Adamson last year) and your fighting heart. You have shown how much you love the school by carrying the team on your back. Thank you! See you in the PBA!
Magnum Membrere - You are the 6th man personified. You amaze me with your big fighting heart. You are someone worth emulating. I hope that our grade school and high school boys will follow in your footsteps.
Bajjie - Sorry if nagagalit ako sa mga turnovers mo. Thank you din.
our thanks to the graduating captains - LA, Magnum, Bajjie - who each have overcome their own individual trials and have truly embraced the Ateneo spirit. More than being proud of your accomplishments as players, the community is equally proud that we have seen you grow before our eyes into fine gentlemen, displaying dignity and grace.
Our thanks to the coaching staff - norman black, Sandy, gene, gabby, and the rest - for taking on the responsibility of molding the hearts and minds of these young men. For those familiar with this process, this responsibility can be daunting. These coaches have not only taken on the task of being excellent technicians in their expertise, but have chosen to mold the human side as well, that is which makes it different.
Our thanks to the rest of the team. Yours is the team to carry now for next season and beyond. learn the lessons wisely and carry it with courage, dignity and grace.
Thank you, Blue Eagles for a blessed season.
Thank you LA, Magnum, and Bajjie. Proud as I am of your accomplishments as players, I am even prouder for your perseverance to finish your studies.
Thank you to the Coaching Staff - coach norman, sandy, gene, gabby, jamike, jon - for patiently guiding our boys to become better players and gentlemen.
Thank you to the Ateneo gallery. Wala kayong katulad. Wala.
The FIGHT continues. Our Ladies, Juniors and Team Glory Be are still in contention. Let's go out and support them.
to LA, Magnum and Bajjie - It has been a wonderful 5 years of watching you huys play. We will surely miss those step back jumpers, those nearly impossible layups, and especially your presence. We are thankful for all of this, and for all the memories you have left with us. We are proud you are ATENEANS, nobody else comes close to what we are.
Coach Norman, Gab, Sandy, Jamike, etc - Thanks for the wonderful ride this season. We will be looking forward to next season. another ride. another fight. ONE BIG FIGHT!
6th Man - I very proud to be part of you. Through the hecks and cheers, it really has been a wonderful experience. Hope to see you guys in the womens juniors and team glory be games.
BBB - It hard to do what you do, but heads up for not giving up to show us the heart.
And of course, my many thanks to the ATENISTA.NET family--- the ONLINE 6TH MEN AND WOMEN!!! Thanks for the many wonderful nights, the steak dinners, the magic school bus, the mass texting for ticket sources, the pre- and post-game gatherings, the gimmicks in Ortigas and in Manila, the hecklers' haven, the top 10 list, the best hirits, the jokes, the laughter, etc etc... Beyond basketball, this has truly become a friendship that is priceless. Same passion, a great love for the school that has taught---for some still being taught by this scool---us to be who we are today. This is friendship. Not a gang.
I would like to share the SMS I sent last night to my friends in this site and to other Ateneans:
"I really feel down! Still, I am grateful for the Men's BB Season that has been. Let me just say that I am so proud of our leading the crowd in cheering GO ATENEO!!! ONE BIG FIGHT!!!
There will be many more battles. Many more tears, but if it ain't good... It's not yet the end. Someday. Somehow. ANIMO ATENEO!!! The Spirit Lives Forever! Atenista pa rin tayo! The sky is still BLUE!
'til Season 69...but WAIT, we still have to cheer for The Ateneo Lady Eagles, The Ateneo Blue Eaglets, The Ateneo Team Glory BE, for the whole TEAM ATENEO!!! Thank you, ATENEO!!! You made me a stronger BEING! Fabilioh! Halikinu!"
you're all winners to me. to the blue eagles, better get ready with your shades because the future's very bright
I really don't know what to say. I didn't expect to say goodbye to LA, Magnum and Mr. Christian Joy (hee
) so soon.
Thank you, guys, for the years you have given the Ateneo community and for the heights to which you brought the team during your stay. (As someone who went to college during the Dark Ages of Blue Eagle basketball, the team's achievements over the past several years were way beyond anything I could ever have dreamed.)
Thank you, guys, for your gallant last stand against La Salle yesterday. I will forever remember you as the ones who gave it your all, who had the guts to take the last shot, who held your heads up high despite the slings and barbs that were sent your way. You went down fighting, which is all that anyone can really ask of you, whether in the game of basketball or the game of life.
I hope that you enjoy your remaining stay in the Ateneo. Best of luck with your future endeavors. Please always remember that we're all here for you, because that's what Ateneans do.
My voice is still hoarse from yesterday's game.. good thing we have this thread so i can shout my THANKSto our EAGLES.
thanks to LA, MAGNUM and BADJIE.. forever will your efforts be etched upon the Atenean community..
And i just need to mention this, when the final buzzer rang yesterday, it was MAGNUM who I saw approach the other team's players and offered his hand as a gesture of sportsmanship.. doon mo talaga makikita..
...iba ang ATENISTA!
ONE BIG FIGHT!
thanks for the memories guys! One Big Fight!
My daughter woke up at 4am of Saturday, to join the line for tickets at Araneta, but only ended up with Upperbox B tickets. But despite the loss yesterday, she, her classmates and myself still believe the tickets were well worth the sacrifice, if only for the chance to see you guys play your last game for our school.
LA, idol ka talaga. Many times we see you in Moro or pass near you in Gesu but don't have the courage to striike up a conversation with you or even shake your hand. It would be a real honor to shake your hand and express our sincere gratitude for all you have done for the school. You were our long sought-for point guard messiah. If only you had come in earlier, you could have probably given Rico and Rich and Rainier an earlier crack at the finals in years 2000 and 2001. You make us proud LA, not only because of your basketball achievements, but the hard work you've put in your studies that truly differentiates you from so many other athletes out there.
Magnum. Naiyak kami nang napilay ka. Naiyak nanaman kami nang nagpaalam ka kahapon. We all saw in your pained expression how you loved our school. And you all saw how we loved you back. Maraming nagsasabing ibalik ang mga Ateneo HS players kasi mas may puso silang maglaro. But they only have to look at you and LA, and that theory is broken. Outstanding Red Cubs. Former archrivals of the Ateneo Eaglets. And yet, we are all so proud to be part of your family as Ateneans. We are proud of you. The school is proud of you. In fact, the school is indebted to you. Good luck in all your endeavors in the future. I hope you can have a successful basketball career. If not, I am sure your academic achievements will take you far. Bigyan mo ako ng resume, and I will get you a job.
I decided to lift this from my blog http:kulotology.blogspot.com
----------------------------------
With around six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Coach Norman sent you back in for the final push the team needed. We were down by 13. But the Eagle hopefuls were still hanging on. Still believing. Still believing that you would lead us once more with your end-game heroics.
This is your last year, and maybe your last game, but there must still be something that can be pulled off your sleeves. The magic that has made us believers. How could we have stopped believing? Time and again, you have almost single-handedly lifted the team to victory. Thus, earning you the title of King Eagle this year. That title that was unceremoniously handed down to you unofficially since last year when Larry went down with an ACL injury on that fateful day we faced UP.
Six minutes. Down by thirteen points. We could still make it. And maybe extend your last season for at least one more game.
And just as you re-enter the hardcourt from a brief rest on the bench, you set up the next play, maneuvered through the screens, and freed yourself up for that 3-point jumper by the left quarter-court. Nothing as fancy as that stepback jumper coming from an ankle-breaking crossover you dished off during the dying minutes of the previous game. This one was just a simple, business-like shot from a cold-blooded assassin.
Swoosh!
The blue crowd celebrated into a frenzy. Lead was down to 10. We felt that the 3-point shot was the start of a miraculous comeback only you could engineer. Yes, we could still definitely make it back into the ballgame. We believed.
In the ensuing play, Yeo got set up for a similar 3-point shot by the top of the key. And to our frustration, the ball also found the bottom of the net. Lead was back to that unlucky number 13.
And then it happened.
Just as you were crossing half-court, you dropped down on all four. Up in the Upper Box section where I was standing, I saw it as if it happened in slow motion. And I almost knew it as soon as I saw it. It has been your recurring weakness for the whole of this season. Those dreaded cramps.
As your teammates helped you on your way back to the bench, the whole community felt for you. This wasn’t the proper way to end your playing days with us. No, there has to be a different interpretation of the phrase “going down fighting”.
But as another cliché goes, the mind is willing but the body is weak. Your cramped up legs were traitors to your plans. And as you lied down by the sidelines as you got your legs massaged, you probably knew about it, too. It might be hard to accept but that 3-point shot may have been your last basket as a Blue Eagle. Watching your teammates being toyed around from the bench must have been really hard. But there was nothing else you could do.
And as the final buzzer sounded and the smoke has cleared, we proudly sang our Alma Mater song one last time for the season. We saw you, Badjie and Magnum – the three Eagles whom we wouldn’t get to see again next season – frustrated with this loss. Up there in the galleries, we may not have visually confirmed if tears indeed welled up in your eyes, as others said. But we sure felt how broken your hearts were for not being able to finish this season with a win against our arch-rivals.
You may not have heard it but sporadic shouts of “Thank you, LA!” were yelled by the crowd in our sections.
For all those times you made that step-back three. For all those times you disrespected tall defenders with your acrobatic reverse lay-ups. For those nifty no-look assists you dished out. And for showing everyone, including your detractors, how big the heart of an Atenean really is. Your roots may be red, as you were trained as a Cub in Mendiola, but we are all certain your heart bleeds blue as soon as you stepped into the hardcourt wearing Our Lady's colors.
Thank you for the five years of service to the Blue and White.
Thank you, LA. Thank you, King Eagle!
Maraming Salamat LA! Good Luck in the PROs.
[COLOR=blue][SIZE=24][COLOR=blue]O N E B I G F I G H T!
Thank you LA, Magnum, and Bajjie for playing your hearts out during your stint as Blue Eagles and for showing what CLASS is all about.
Thank you to the rest of the team for all the effort, hard work, and CLASS you showed the entire season. I'm sure we'll see more of the same next year. At huwag pabayaan ang pag-aaral.
Thank you to Coach Norman and the rest of the coaching staff for guiding and leading the team to a very respectable finish.
Thank you to the BBB and the Band for leading our cheers with a lot of heart and conviction, and again for showing a lot of CLASS.
And thank you to the Sixth Man for the overwhelming love and support. Iba talaga tayo. It's been an honor cheering, shouting, and cursing with all of you. But of course, there's still the Eaglets, the Lady Eagles, and Team Glory Be to pump up.
Smile people. ATENISTA TAYO! And we have CLASS.
GO ATENEO! ONE BIG FIGHT!
Now that its time to say goodbye to LA Tenorio, let us all wish him continued success in the PBA where he is more than likely to go in the first round of next year's draft. As a friend of LA... I will pray that he gets drafted by the right team and that he has a properous career...
GINEBRA! GINEBRA!
Sorry Carrot for off-topic, kung Ginebra fan ka maiintindihan mo
It is obvious that I am still not over the loss. This entry dated Sept.26 was lifted from my blog with a few alterations:
******
A lot of people would deem it silly for a person to be crying over a lost basketball game I wasn't even a team member of, let alone at the day after it happened, but I've been crying over yesterdays game ever since LA went down with cramps. I've always felt for everything I watched. From that little dinosaur in Land Before Time, to Ben Affleck's death in Pearl Harbor to the war between the Orcs and the Humans in Lord of the Rings. You see, I'm the type of person who feels everyone's pain even through the screen. Yesterday, it was no different.
I have posted so many sentiments on atenista.net and shared so many frustrations with my cohort Pam and everyone else who dared to listen, and yet the grief didn't subside. I couldn't explain why this affected me so much, as I'm certain that I felt no sympathy when Larry went down last year nor when Bugia left without a championship. I just do. It's baffling me as much as it's baffling you.
A day before the game, when LA guaranteed a win, immediately I thought that he shouldn't make promises he can't keep. But I had complete trust in this year's King Eagle. You would too if you watched him play 2-4 hours a week for the last 4 months. He can make things happen. That's how talented he is. And when he says they'll win, you better believe it. I was excited for the game and watched as the Blue Eagles struggled with La Salle taking an early lead. And then it happened. LA kept his promise. Those two free throws started it all. And then he canned his threes, drove to the basket drawing the interior defense of La Salle and then dished to his team mates with no look assists. He did this for a few times, sometimes finishing it off himself. This is the LA we're all so proud off, the LA where not even three FEU defenders could stop. At half time, our King Eagle had 15 points and the lead. A promise kept.
Then the walls came crashing down. The two crucial turnovers which earned the DLSU team the lead, broke us. We were never the same again. But lo and behold, when LA came on the court again, we took the lead. However, there is only so much that a man can do. LA didn't mess up, even though it was evident that he was tired. He still canned those threes and drove that basket, still fighting. But, basketball is a team sport, we couldn't win with his sheer talent alone. In fact, he shot that three hopefully stopping the La Salle run. Then, it happened, LA went down with cramps. When he was on the floor, everyone saw the pain in the cramps, I saw something different altogether. I saw the desire to stand up again. The will power to overcome the physical aspect and play one last time. Lose as a winner, one last time. His body didn't agree. And when you saw him on the sidelines, the anguish writen in his face, you can't help but cry. He turned down the PBA teams to don the Blue and White again, and then this is how it ends. When those last 3 minutes winded down and La Salle was already chiding us with that planned fake picture and the time out during the dying seconds, LA could do nothing. But it was clear that he wanted to.
We may have lost again to the green archers big time, and we may have not won but LA kept his promise. He fought the battle for us. What makes me sad is not that we lost, is that we lost despite his best. We lost in spite the fact that La Salle was unsportsman like. We lost during his last and final game and couldn't do anything about it.
On the other side, there was Magnum Membrere. I'm saddened by the fact that I wasn't able to watch Magnum in his glory days. He must have been unstoppable. I heard that when he went down with ACL, he wasn't the same player again. He acknowledged this, started working hard on his studies and continued playing for the team. This year, he relinquished his first five spot to Macky Escalona despite being co-captain and playing his final year. He wasn't fielded in as much as the rest but he played his role. Every time we watched, I saw Magnum struggle with the three. And every time I saw him, I smiled whenever he looks at the crowd, waves his hands, thumps his chest and shouts. He did this in every game. Whether they were up or down. At the mass in gesu, he said that they will go to Araneta without fear. Magnum did. He played extended minutes, in fact, he played most of the game. He had a shaky start, but after that drive to the basket, he was unleashed. He was 100% on the free throw line again, and he sank those threes, trying to reduce the lead of La Salle during the second half. What amazed me the most was when LA stepped out and it was obvious that they weren't going to win, Magnum still kept fighting. He still hustled for the ball, tried to grab those rebounds and shot those threes. Magnum Membrere made the last 3 points Ateneo had during that game and also took the last shot of the game, albeit it didn't go in. After the final buzzer, Magnum was one of the first to shake hands with the DLSU team, despite the taunting. During the alma matter, he was thanking the crowd despite evidently saddened by the loss. When they were stepping of the court, he turned to the crowd, pumped his fist on his chest and raised his arms to the 6th man.
This entry may sound as if they died, and they partly did. They died because they'll never play for the blue and white again. But, unlike death, I'll be able to see them play for some other team again. It's not over.
I couldn't have asked for any more from them. And I couldn't cheer for a better team. I couldn't express enough gratitude to these players who inspire me and played their heart out one last time for the Ateneo. I wish them all the best.
5 seasons of LA and Magnum. A combination which started in Mendiola and ended in Loyola.
Thanks for the memories guys. Your five seasons were simply amazing. You had class and heart. True traits of an Atenean. Go down from the hill with your heads up high as you have prepared yourself well for bigger battles.
One big fight!
[from atenista_comm] AN OPEN APPEAL TO THE POSTERS IN THE BASKETBALL THREADS: Discussion are okay. But please do not single out one person who has been a recipient of too much bashing this season. Our MBB Season is over. It is finished. The fight goes on. Hopefully the armchair coaches in this site will be happy that next year, this person being singled out is not playing anymore. Discussions are okay. But let us not be too "smart-alecky" here. My viewpoint. Thanks.
With that in mind, I'd like to thank LA, Magnum and Del Rosario for giving volumes of blood, sweat and tears for Ateneo. Good luck sa "down-from-the-hill" life ninyo. Magnum - bilib ako sa puso mo. Sana maka-PBA ka. LA - thanks for carrying the team. Good luck sa PBL at PBA career mo.
WIN OR LOSE!
i took my time before reading the forums. it's saddening not being able to watch the game, even more when the reason why you cant come is very legitimate. most of all, when that game was the last game of la, mags, and christian joy.
salamat sa mga iyong sakripisyo at effort. you are so great.
good luck in your future endeavors.
btw, methinks la should succeed another king eagle... (olsen) red bull aint shabby, either.
L.a Tenorio- A guy who played as a Cub in San beda.A guy who played as a Eagle in UAAP.I remember the season 64 finals game 3 between Ateneo and DLSU. Enrico Villanueva was struggled on that game.Scoring just 5 points in the game. But who is the guy who stepped-up on that game?! The eagle with a heart of the Lion L.A Tenorio.Scoring 30 points. Even you lost on that game and DLSu won the championship, you show to the archers that the Ateneo is a team to beat and the name L.A Tenorio will be get revenge on the archers. The same as Magnum Membrere, another guy who used to be a Cub, a shares the leadership with L.A to fight on that game. When the PBL season began. We got coach Joel Banal.Enrico is so dominant on the PBL. L.A needs one more year playing season to play in the PBL because of the rules, and Magnum is so deadly from rainbow territory. But,i was so lonely when you and bugs had a ACL.So L.A is the new court general of the Eagles but suddenly, you and bugs didnt play but the 2 of you became a number one cheerer of the eagles and the 2nd round elims against DLSU.You and Bugs went to the court and became a blue babble batalions for a couple of minutes and I can see in your eyes that your ready to play!!! And of course Badjie, during mags's absence,Badjie is the one who gain playing time and shoot those three's as a another left handed version of mags. The 3 of you are the most humble person i saw! (IF you read this L.A,MAGS&BADJIE)
to L.A- thanks for the memories, for not giving up and to fight that crumps. For signing autographs from your fans, for being nice and humble guy.Thank you once again for the dropstep three point shots,to the reverse lay-ups,and the best palys we saw on your game.Goodluck in the PBA. We will support you there.Thank you
to Mags- Thanks to your unstoppable shots, for being a humble guy even you are so popular, for the wrist band you gave to me on the PBL.Goodluck on your career. And i hope you can play in the PBA.We will support you on any team you will be drafted.thanks dude for being a proud Atenista.
to badjie-Thanks to your tight defense against your opponents, for those physical plays, and being a nice guy.Badjie, goodluck on your career.
The three of you will not play next season, but it doesnt mean that the three of you are not a Blue eagle anymore, the three of you will always be a great Blue Eagle.
I thought my days of crying over lost games are over. I didn't cry last Sunday but I am now. Naaawa talaga ako kay LA. I don't think he deserves to leave the UAAP without a bang. :'( Anyhow, I thank him and wish him the best!!! I will be watching out for you and Mr. Membrere in the pro league.
sa lahat ng ng aming nakasama
sa lahat ng hirap at pagdurusa
- eraserheads, para sa masa
matsala.
i didn't get to watch the game. i had an exam that lasted up till 5. in la salle, of all places. but right after the test, i looked for a fellow atenean or even just an interested basketball fan to know how the game turned out. my heart fell when i learned the results. but what pained me wasn't the fact that we weren't going to the finals or that we lost to those lasalytes. what broke my heart was the thought that i never got the chance to watch LA Tenorio's final game as a blue eagle. LA Tenorio, my all-time favorite ateneo player within whose deceivingly small frame was one big fighting heart that has bailed us out in more than one occasion.
ang sakit ng feeling. "ito namang si LA, hindi man lang ako hinintay...," i remember myself telling anyone who was willing to listen that night.
when a friend who saw the game recounted LA's heroics and the unceremonious way he ended his uaap career, i couldn't help but beam with pride and sigh with grief. "HAYOP SI TENORIO, IBANG KLASE TALAGA. MALAS LANG, PINULIKAT." coming from a guy who doesn't think much of the ateneo basketball team, my friend's unbiased comment was definitely good to hear.
sana nandoon ako para palakpakan kayo. sana nandoon ako para pasalamatan kayo nina mags at joy. sana nandoon ako upang makapagpaalam man lamang at sumama sa isang masigabong palakpakan. sana nandoon ako upang ihatid kayo sa simula ng inyong bagong paglalakbay...
now that it's over, let me just say that i am proud to have been able to see LA play for us. i am sure that he, together with MAGNUM and BHADJJIEE, will live forever in ateneo basketball lore. for their sacrifices, the joys, the memories and the sheer thrill of believing... I THANK YOU. i couldn't ask for a better group of young men to carry ateneo's banner. you won with grace and lost with humility. but most importantly, you played your hearts out in each and every game for all of us who love and suppot you.
you guys will always be champions in our hearts. the uaap title is just that--- a title. generations from now, your legend will live on as i'm sure our children and our children's children will never tire of hearing about the heart and intensity of MAGNUM MEMBRERE or the fighting spirit of BHAJIE DEL ROSARIO or the will, thrill and skill of LA TENORIO.
raise yourt heads high, mga pare. ATENISTA PA RIN KAYO. and for that, you will always be winners anywhere you go...
around 5 or so years ago, i was a young grade 6 student at the ateneo grade school. i wasnt that much of a hardcore uaap fanatic back then, i just cared if ateneo beat la salle (goes to show how the jesuits have "brainwashed" our minds
). i heard that ateneo reached the finals back then, and it was against la salle. my dad invited me to watch the games and i gladly obliged. there i saw this young kid on the court, running here and there. "makulit" in the court as they say. the series went up to game three. on that game, the kid scored 30 or so points i think. i remember just before halftime seeing him take a twisting revers layup with ten seconds to go and then stealing the ball at the halfcourt area and throwing away a hail mary shot. it went in, giving the team a double digit margin. sadly, even with the kid's efforts, the team lost. but eventually the next year, the kid's team was the champion. if y'all havent noticed yet, the kid i'm talking about is la tenorio. he was one hell of a player, and i could say that he "introduced" to me college basketball. the year after that, i watched almost every single game of the team, upto now. the moment i saw him play, i thought he was a talented and special kid. too bad he dint win the rookie of the year honors that year. but even if he didnt, he still brought alot of things to the ateneo. thank you la. thank you magnum. thank you bajjie. thank you for everything. one big fight!
"ATENISTA."
I would like to quote an article by Carlos Gabriel Araneta in the Ateneo website, http://www.ateneo.edu/news.php?office_id=1&news_id=3192,
"As the sea of supporters for the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles stood and raised their fists to the sky, LA Tenorio stood with his face down, unable to look at the people who stood by his every move for the past five years. Magnum Membrere walks up to him, and gives him a hug, and together, side by side, they face the crowd, and sing the Alma Mater Song, one last time.

...As Tenorio, Membrere and Del Rosario faced the gallery one last time, it was a poignant moment for everyone, at the realization that an era was ending, and another was beginning. As we say goodbye to these three who brought so much talent, class, and heart to our Alma Mater, we wish them the best in everything that they do, and with the knowledge that they will always have this school to come home to, anytime.
Waiting in the wings, if one listens closely, is the inescapable sound of the wooden drumsticks clashing with the snare and bass drums. If you listen hard enough, you can hear the Blue and White, screaming to fight another day. You can hear it in your heart; the heart of an Atenean."
At bagay na bagay pa yung mga pics. That's what I call losing with dignity, licking your wounds and moving on. And as they say, what doesn't kill you will make you stronger.
ang sarap ng feeling no? parang hindi tayo natatalo? siguro dahil sa suporta natin sa isa't isa at sa genuine love for our team and most especially, our school. wala man tayong tropeyo, kampeon pa rin ang blue eagles ko.
Dramatic photos especially the last one!

in retrospect medyo nakakalunkot lang that IF Adamson's Fr. Rendon accepted Lasalle's expose right away and not waited for the season to end before announcing anything.. it would have been us in the finals and not those cheating lasallians..
Membrere Remembers with Gratitude
http://www.ateneo.edu/news.php?office_id=1&news_id=3397
(Editor's Note: Ateneo Blue Eagles guard Benedict Magnum Membrere, an A.B. Interdisciplinary Studies 2004 graduate who is currently enrolled in the Master's Program in Communication at the Loyola Schools, recently wrote a letter to University President Bienvenido F. Nebres, S.J. and the community from a heart overflowing with gratitude. One can surmise that it was his response to the Parangal organized by the community to pay tribute to him and two other veteran Eagles Bajjie Del Rosario and LA Tenorio on 6 October 2005 at the Grade School Auditorium. One can venture a guess that he'll turning over a new leaf. But in this gifted athlete's own words, he simply wanted to give thanks for his dream-come-true. Following is Magnum's letter in full. )
10 November 2005
Fr. Bienvenido F. Nebres, S.J.
President
Ateneo de Manila University
Dear Fr. Nebres and the Ateneo community,
I would like to express my gratitude; so great, I reckon, it would be very difficult for me to find enough words. I ask you to excuse me should I ever be too loquacious.
Six years ago, I was a young man in high school who had two simple dreams: to obtain a good education and to continue doing what I love best.
Six years ago, I was given the chance to fulfill both those dreams by an academic community which recognizes the value of dreams and how it drives an individual to attain things even beyond his expectations.
When Ateneo allowed me to play basketball for them, I was not only given the chance to play the sport I've always adored, it also made way for me to attain the best college education in the country. I was given the opportunity of a lifetime.
I did not come from one of the affluent families most Ateneans usually originate from. I did not particularly aspire to achieve extraordinary things perhaps because I thought I might not have the resources to do so. In this at least I was certain of: I knew that education is priceless. The years I spent being educated in Ateneo have strengthened my character. It has cultivated my body, mind and spirit. It has given me access to endless possibilities.
Now I know what HEART truly means, how faith truly overcomes the most difficult of obstacles. The education I gained not only edified my mind but enriched my spirit. I intend (I promise!) to finish my Master's studies in Ateneo but I do not think my learning will ever cease there. One thing I have learned here is that we never stop learning and we never should lose the yearning to do so. I will hopefully still be playing basketball in the coming years but wherever my path takes me, I will make sure that I give back to Ateneo what it has given me.
My heart really overflows with gratitude...
I would like to thank the school administration for treating me not just as someone who plays for the varsity?but as an Atenean student. For considering me not only as someone who studies there because he plays a sport but someone who is there because he truly wants and deserves an Ateneo education.
To Fr. Nebres who knew all of us in the team by name (and I'm sure if he had the incredible capacity to do so, he'd call all students in the Ateneo by name.) I would never forget the times he would personally go to our locker room just to give us words of inspiration before a game. I had not imagined that someone as venerable as the Ateneo president could take time to do something like that and it humbles and uplifts me every time he personally conveys his encouragement.
To Fr. Tito Caluag and Fr. Nemy Que, for their immeasurable support as well as to the following: coaches Joe Lipa, Joel Banal, Sandy Arespacochaga, and Norman Black; all the members of the Ateneo Blue Eagles coaching management and staff; my teammates, my brothers (whom I will not give dramatic thanks to lest they start teasing me).
To the Ateneo alumni for the countless things they have given me and the team; some of you barely even knew me but you treated me as part of your family. Thank you for believing in this humble young man's dreams and allowing him to make them come true.
I especially want to thank the people who have helped me during the time of my mother's sickness. Thank you for the financial assistance, the prayers and the optimism you have shared with me through that difficult time. Once again I have been awed by the unselfishness, kindness and solidarity of this community. I am eternally grateful.
To all my professors --- to every single one of them. I might not have been the most intellectually impressive student, but I took every single lesson, lecture, test, paper and task to heart. I have been made richer with every challenge and every obstacle. I know that many young people take their education for granted but I am glad to say that I am not one of those.
To my fellow-Ateneans, the meaningful friendships I have cultivated; to every interesting character I have encountered in the halls; to my fellow students who have touched my life one way or another. There are too many of you (and I would not like to make this letter resemble the Registrar's List) but if any of you ever remember me in the future, please know that I am thankful to you for having been a part of my life.
The only way I could properly repay all of you is to become an Atenean not only on paper but really become the Man for Others an Atenean is supposed to be. To exert every effort towards the greater good. To excel in whatever I choose to do and offer it all back to God's glory.
All of you have given me so much; you gave me an excellent education and embraced my family as part of your own. You allowed me to represent my school by playing my favorite sport and whether we won or lost a game, I still felt very fortunate because of the conviction that the entire Ateneo family is behind me.
Basketball, to me, became not merely a game but a celebration of community, of hope and the fulfillment of dreams. You gave me a better life and a shot at a better future. Most of all, you have given the best six years of my life thus far.
BENEDICTO MAGNUM MEMBRERE III

^^^^Proud to be Magnum's batchmate!!! Go Ateneo College 2004!!!! Animo ATENEO!!!
With this obviously AUTHENTIC letter by Magnum, I suppose all talk about our players' academic prowess and abilities should be put to rest.
And they have the audacity to question our players' academic aptitude and qualifications?
it's obviously authentic because it comes from the heart. thanks, mags, for giving ateneo the best embodiment of its ideals in the basketball court.
it was an honor cheering for you, magnum.
a few weeks back, i met you at the grade school and all i requested was a picture of you together with my son. but you dropped everything you were doing and took the time to chat with my boy. let me tell you, after that my boy never got tired of bragging to his cousins and friends that magnum was "his friend."
good luck, magnum.
being a true atenean is not dependent on how much time you spend in the Ateneo, but what value set and princples you have when you depart from it, and how you live those values for the rest of your life.
how you, magnum, have carried yourself throughout all this time, thru the trials and triumphs, is a testament to your parents and your school. we are proud and humbled to call you an atenean. it is a distinction that is worn with both honor and grace, knowing fully well its capacity to be a force of change either for good or bad. God's grace be with you to always show you the difference in this often confusing world.
from a proud community that has seen its son grow into a worthy warrior before its eyes, it is us that is proud of you. do us well, son.
+amdg.
maraming salamat blue eagles. lalaban tayo next year!
