ALUMNI HOLY WEEK TRIDUUM RETREAT April 9, 10, and 11, 2009 Escaler Hall Science Education Complex (SEC), Loyola Schools Ateneo de Manila University Retreat Director Fr. Luis S. David, S.J. Ateneo BS Math 1977 Boston College, U.S.A., PhD Philosophy 1995 Ateneo Department of Philosophy - 1995 to present Retreat Notes of the Retreat Director, Fr. Luis S. David, S.J. Ignatius, the pilgrim, served us notice that, to find God, he was not going to distance himself from the world but, quite the reverse, would continue to operate in the world, as Jesus and the apostles did. By seeking Jesus "in all things," Ignatius gave us the gift of our focus on "mundane-ness," on world-liness, on realism, on the struggle to recognise God's concrete action in every person or situation that comes along our way, in order to work alongside of them, using whatever means are at our disposal, even our failings, to build the Church and to save humanity. But here, in our world, we display an amazing ability to cling - sometimes with utmost ferocity - to the very things that most severely would paralyze us, that would destroy us, and keep us, as individuals and as Church, from running forward with God. As a consequence, we have little to actually fire the belly. Our lives lack passion precisely because we build them around striving toward limitation rather than liberation. As agent of a gracious God, Jesus, however, interacts with us, such as we are, who cleave to our paralysis, our burdens, our pain. He shows us how we could run free from our fixations, in order to run on in God's own way.
